Cutory Privacy Policy

Effective: October 14, 2026 · App: Cutory · Package: com.mindstartium.cutory

1. Overview

Cutory ("the app") turns photos on your device into a photo book laid out as comic panels. The app has no sign-up or login, and the developer does not operate any server that receives or stores your photos or personal information. Reading, analysing, laying out and exporting your photos all happen on your device.

2. Information stored only on your device

  • Books you make: the book name, identifiers of the photos in it (the gallery's reference to a photo, not the photo itself), page layouts, the words and settings you changed
  • Photo analysis results: sharpness and exposure scores, where faces are in a photo, the kinds of things in it (such as food or sky), where the main subject is, and when and where the photo was taken
  • App settings: screen skin, reading direction and the like

This information stays on your device and is not sent to the developer. Original photos are not copied into the app's storage. Uninstalling the app removes all of the above; the photos in your gallery are left as they are.

3. Permissions and why they are used

PermissionWhenPurpose and handling
Photo access (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES; READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 12 and below)The first time you find photos by dates or choose an album. The reason is shown before the system asks.To list the photos of the dates or album you picked and show the ones that can go into the book. Photos are read on the device only and are never transmitted. Videos and audio are not read.
Selected photos only (READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED)On Android 14 and above, when you choose "Allow limited access"So the app keeps working with only the photos you allowed.
Location stored in photos (ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION)Together with photo accessThe place written into a photo is used to split scenes where the place changes. It is used on the device only and is never transmitted. The app does not read the device's current location.

Without these permissions you can still make a book with "Choose photos myself", which uses the system photo picker and hands the app only the photos you choose. You can turn permissions off at any time in Settings > Apps > Cutory > Permissions.

4. Photo analysis and faces

To choose photos for the book and decide how to crop them, the app analyses small copies of your photos on the device. This includes finding where faces are in a photo. The app does not recognise whose face it is or tell people apart, and it does not create or store face templates. The photos analysed and the results never leave your device.

5. Exporting and sharing

Saving a book as images writes them to your device's photo app. Tapping "Share" opens the system share sheet, and the images go only to the app you choose there; what happens next follows that app's policy. The app never sends images anywhere by itself.

6. Third-party component (Google ML Kit)

The on-device photo analysis (face positions, the kinds of things in a photo, the main subject) uses Google ML Kit. The analysis runs on your device and your photos are not sent to Google. ML Kit may, however, collect the following information and send it to Google for diagnostics and usage analytics.

InformationPurpose
Device information (manufacturer, model, OS version), app package name and versionDiagnostics, usage analytics
Device or per-installation identifiersDiagnostics, usage analytics
Performance metrics (such as latency), feature configuration, error codesDiagnostics, usage analytics

This information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and Google states that it does not transfer it to third parties. See the ML Kit data disclosure (https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure) and the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). The app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting tools.

7. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Third-party disclosure and international transfer

The developer does not sell your personal information or provide it to third parties. The information collected by ML Kit in section 6 is processed by Google LLC (United States) under Google's policies.

9. Retention and deletion

No personal information is stored on any developer server. Books on your device can be deleted from the shelf, and uninstalling the app or clearing its data in device settings removes all books, analysis results and settings.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
